Britt McHenry’s Early Life and Childhood

Brittany May ‘Britt’ McHenry was born on the 28^th May 1986, in Mount Holly Township, New Jersey USA, into the family of Bill McHenry, who was a US Air Force Lt. Colonel. Although a native of New Jersey, Britt was raised in Satellite Beach, Brevard Country, Florida, where she also completed her elementary and secondary education, attending Satellite High School from which she matriculated in 2004. During her teenage years, Britt excelled at sports, soccer in particular, and was a member of Satellite High School’s women’s soccer team. She continued her education by enrolling at Stetson University from which she graduated magna cum laude in 2007, and during which time, besides doing some modeling work, Britt also played as a midfielder for the Stetson Hatters soccer team. The final stage of Britt McHenry’s education took place in Evanston, Illinois, where she attended the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications of Northwestern University, from which she obtained her degree in journalism in 2008.

Upon earning her journalism degree, McHenry landed her first professional job at ABC TV’s Washington affiliate, WJLA-TV (also known as ABC 7), and honed her anchoring skill by serving as a fill-in-anchor for its sister station, the cable NewsChannel 8 (currently referred to as the WJLA 24/7 News). Although initially appearing as a business reporter, in the course of the next several years, Britt McHenry switched to sports, and began making her own video reports. She was also a dugout reporter for the San Diego Padres’ telecast, aired on Fox Sports San Diego.

In early 2014, Britt McHenry parted ways with ABC 7, and joined ESPN, where she spent the next couple of years as the Washington D. C.-based bureau reporter, and correspondent for several of its productions, including the shows and broadcasts such as the “Baseball Tonight, “NFL Live” as well as the “Outside the Lines” and the “SportsCenter”. In April 2017, after covering the 2017 NFL Draft and after four years with ESPN, McHenry was officially let go due to company’s cost-cutting action, during which they laid off a 100 of their staffers.
