Kathryn Tappen, born on the 9th of April, 1981, is an American sportscaster who is known for her work on NBC and its Sports Group coverage of games in the National Hockey League (NHL), “Football Night in America”, and the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, to name a few of her achievements.

Kathryn Tappen’s Early Life

Tappen was born in Morristown, New Jersey and is the daughter of Sheila and Richard Tappen; she has a sister named Amanda. Growing up, she fell in love with various sports including golf, tennis, basketball and baseball. During her last year in high school at Villa Walsh Academy, she decided to focus on track, and her determination and talent eventually landed her an academic and athletic scholarship to attend Rutgers University. Tappen continued her education at Rutgers, taking advantage of her scholarship and majoring in journalism. While in college she continued her passion for sports, and joined the school’s cross-country and track team. She was a four-time Academic All-American and Big East All Star as a Scarlet Knight during her years in college, graduating in 2003.

Right after college, Tappen immediately joined the work force and became part of College Sports Television. After gaining experience, she decided to move to WJAR in Providence, Rhode Island. working as the network’s weekday sports reporter and weekend anchor. Her early years in the news industry helped establish her career and also her net worth. After her stint at WJAR, Tappen moved to New England Sports Network (NESN) in 2006, where she spent almost five years hosting various games until she moved to NHL in 2011. During her time at NHL she became known as the host of “NHL Tonight.” Her years working in various networks and show also helped increase her wealth.
