Leland is the son of Carol and Mark Vittert and spent his childhood in St Louis, Missouri with his sister, Liberty Vittert, who is now a celebrity chef. Upon successfully finishing high school, Leland enrolled at Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, from which he obtained a degree in Broadcast Journalism. During his studies, Leland also spent time at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Career Beginnings

Leland started as an intern at the KTVI-TV, based in St. Louis, Missouri, after which he became a part of WFTV-TV, an ABC affiliate, headquartered in Orlando, Florida. Within a year his hard work was recognized with an Emmy Award nomination for helping clear a police officer wrongly accused of rape. Leland moved on to KATV-TV, headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, and then to KNWA-TV in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His career steadily improved, and several stations vied for Leland’s services. Before he joined the Fox News Channel, Leland was also a part of the WMTV-TV, an NBC affiliate, in Madison Wisconsin.
