Mexican actress and producer Martha Elba Guadalupe Higareda Cervantes was born in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, on 24 August 1983, making Virgo her zodiac sign. She has 53 acting credits and is perhaps known best for portraying Kristin Ortega in 11 episodes of the critically acclaimed science fiction action series “Altered Carbon”, which starred Renee Elise Goldsberry and Chris Conner, and was created by Laeta Kalogridis. Set in a futuristic world in which consciousness can be digitized and transferred into another body, the series follows a prisoner who’s been ‘revived’ in this way and has to help the police catch a murderer to win his freedom; it aired from 2018 through 2020 and won four of its 31 award nominations.

Education and early life

Martha was raised in Villahermosa alongside her sister Miriam Higareda, who’s today also an actress, by their father Jose Luis Higareda who was a therapist and artist, and mother Martha Cervantes who was an actress.

Martha fell in love with acting at the age of four, as she looked up to her mother; she was six when she began practicing various types of dance, including flamenco, jazz and folklore, while it was a couple of years later that she appeared in her first school play.

Martha was a great student and matriculated in 1998, aged 15; she then enrolled at El Tecnologico de Monterrey and attended classes in the morning while taking lessons at an acting school in the evening. Martha dropped out of college a year later, and moved to Mexico City together with her mother and sister.
