American actor, singer and dancer Omari Ishmael ‘Omarion’ Grandberry, was born under the zodiac sign Scorpio on 12 November 1984, in Inglewood, California USA. He’s perhaps known best for having been the frontman of the R&B group B2K, which was active from 1998 through 2004; the other three members were Raz-B, J-Boog and Lil’ Fizz, and they became famous following the release of their debut album “B2K” on 12 March 2002. The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, and topped the Top R&B/Hip-Bop Albums chart; B2K released only two more albums prior to disbanding: “Santa Hooked Me Up” and “Pandemonium!”, both in 2002.

Early life and education

Omarion was raised in Inglewood alongside his younger brother O’Ryan, who’s today also a popular singer, and their five other siblings by their mother Leslie Burrell and father Trent Grandberry; not many details have been shared about Omarion’s parents because he respects their privacy.

He began dancing and singing at a very early age, and by the time he enrolled at local high school in 1999, Omarion already knew that he wanted to pursue a career in the music industry. He was also passionate about sports during his teenage years as he enjoyed playing basketball and tennis with his peers, and upon matriculating in 2003, he chose to focus on music rather than enrolling at college.

Music career

Omarion focused on his solo career following the disbandment of B2K, and launched his first solo album, “O” on 22 February 2005; it topped both Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Billboard 200 charts, and its lead single “O” reached #27 on Billboard Hot 100. The album was also nominated for a 48th Annual Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album.

Omarion’s second album, “21” followed on 26 December 2006, and once again topped both of the above mentioned charts; it also spawned hit singles “Entourage” and “Ice Box”. He and American rapper Bow Wow released their collaborative album “Face Off” in the second half of 2007.

Omarion’s third studio album “Ollusion” came out in January 2010 but wasn’t as successful as his previous two albums; his debut mixtape “The Awakening” followed on 11 May 2011, and his debut extended play (EP) “Care Package” on 29 November 2012 – Omarion’s second EP “Care Package 2” came out on 5 November 2013.

His fourth album “Sex Playlist” was released on 2 December 2014 and won him a Soul Train Music Award; the album was followed by the release of his third EP “Care Package 3” on 12 November 2015, and his fourth EP “Care Package 4” in November 2017.

Omarion’s currently working on his upcoming album “Sex Playlist 2”.

Acting credits

Omarion’s debut film appearance was in the 2001 music video “Lil Bow Wow: Ghetto Girls”, and the year 2003 saw him appear in the music video “B2K: Gots Ta Be”.

He played the lead character David in the 2004 musical movie “You Got Served”, which also starred Raz B and Jarell Houston, and was written and directed by Chris Stokes. It follows two friends as they’re competing at a local dance contest, and the film won one of the six awards for which it was nominated. Some of Omarion’s roles in the remainder of the decade were in the 2005 animated adventure comedy film “The Proud Family Movie” (voice role), the 2006 comedy series “Cuts”, and the 2010 action crime thriller movie “Wrong Side of Town”.

He played Julian in the 2012 episode “The Choice Is Yours” of the romantic comedy series “Let’s Stay Together”, which starred Nadine Ellis, Joyful Drake and Bert Belasco, and was created by Jacque Edmonds. It follows the lives of several couples and the series won one of its two award nominations. Omarion could then have been seen featured in the music videos “Omarion Feat. Rick Ross: Let’s Talk”, “Jhene Aiko: Burning Man (3:16pm)” and “Rick Ross Feat. Omarion: Ice Cold”.

Most recently, in 2023, he played a supporting character in the episode “Family Feud” of the hit comedy series “Grown-ish”, which stars Diggy Simmons, Yara Shahidi and Trevor Jackson, and was created by Larry Wilmore and Kenya Barris. It follows Zoey Johnson who’s about to begin attending college, the series has been airing since 2018, and has been nominated for 29 awards.

Love life and relationships

Omarion shies away from speaking about his love life in public, but we know that he was in a relationship with TV personality and social media star Apryl Jones. The two starred alongside in the reality show “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood”, and Apryl gave birth to their son in 2014, while their daughter followed in 2016; it’s widely believed that Omarion’s highly involved in his children’s upbringing even though he’s no longer in a relationship with their mother, but this remains unconfirmed.

Prior to meeting Apryl, Omarion dated American actress Jennifer Freeman, and American social media star Debra; most recently, in 2023 he dated American actress Nia Long.
