Early Life, Parents, and Education

Emily is the daughter of the famous ship driver, Steve Riedel, who has been seen on such ships as Wild Ranger and Minnows, and is also a part of the reality show “Bering Sea Gold”. Her mother’s identity remains unknown to the media. The Riedel family is involved in the fishing business, and every member has duties in regards to fishing. However, it was only enough for bills and a simple life. Emily wanted more for herself than that simple life in Alaska, and became interested in music, preferring classical and opera, and upon high school matriculation, enrolled at the University of North Carolina’s School of Arts, where she received vocal training.

While at University, Emily started chasing a career as an opera singer, and made a few notable appearances, before realizing that she couldn’t support her education financially just with her singing career. Then one day, a call from a friend changed her life for good. She moved to  Nome, Alaska on the suggestion of Zeke Tenhoff, to join him on his dredging ship and dig for gold in the Bering Sea. Emily accepted his offer, and flew to Nome with just $300 in her pocket.

Emily joined Zeke’s crew on his ship The Clark, and the two developed a relationship that would become more than a friendship. Working together brought them a fortune, but also fame, once the producers of the A&E network decided to offer Zeke, Emily and other gold miners from Nome, including Steve Pomrenke, Ian Foster, and Vernon Adkison, to become cast members of the reality show “Bering Sea Gold”.

The show launched in 2012, and for the two seasons, Emily was a deckhand at her friend Zeke’s ship “The Clark”. However, following the second season, Emily had earned enough money to buy her own ship, and is now the owner and captain of the Eroica, and since the third season has been digging for gold with her own crew.
