Who is Maxx Chewning?

Born on 9 September 1989 under the earth sign of Virgo, at an unspecified location in the United States of America, Maxwell “Maxx” Chewning is a 29-year-old American fitness enthusiast, model, YouTuber, entrepreneur and designer. He’s best known for his fitness-related content, pertaining to training advice, diet plans and everything else that a novice gym goer might find useful. In addition to educational content, Maxx also posts videos of his record lifts, with travel vlogs also being one of his favorite types of content. He’s successfully built an empire through social media, until he became a true fitness celebrity. Despite his late venture into the world of fitness, Chewning has inspired countless men and women, proving that it’s never too late. In 2014, he founded Ever Forward Apparel, a brand which sells training clothing and equipment for people of all ages.

Early Life and Education: Growing Up in the United States of America

Maxx was raised in his birthplace by parents of still unknown names and professions. He has one (unnamed) younger brother, who appears on his social media profiles from time to time. He would often shoot hoops recreationally with his friends, but never thought of working out as something appealing, although he was also a competitive wrestler.

Afterwards, he would go on to enroll at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), from where he graduated cum laude (with honors, meaning that he had a grade point average (GPA of 3.5-3.7) in 2012. Upon starting his freshman year at VCU, Maxx made a lot of friends. Eventually, it turned out that these collegiate bonds were just the catalyst behind his subsequent stardom.

How He Started Working Out: From “Newbie Gains” to an Obsession

Shortly after his 21th birthday, Maxx was constantly being bugged by his mates with suggestions like ‘We should go to the gym!’ and ‘Let’s hit the iron (lift weights)!’, so he had little choice but to oblige. All of his close friends were regulars at the college gym, so he was able to get acquainted with weightlifting up close and personal. ‘In high school, I wrestled in the 112-pound weight class, but I never considered getting into fitness.’, Chewning explains.

‘My roommates in college tried to get me to go work out with them, but I’d much rather eat candy all day and play video games.’ After the first few workouts, Maxx was already seeing changes in his strength and aesthetic, so he was motivated by this initial streak of improvements. ‘Newbie gains, as we call it, are a normal thing when you’re just starting’, he tells us. ‘The muscles aren’t used to that kind of strain, so they quickly grow to adapt. That’s what got me hooked! [laughs]!’ A few months later, everyone started noticing his weight gain, with compliments coming from all sides.

Career: How Maxx Chewning Built an Online Empire

In late 2011, Maxx weighed 160lbs (72kgs), and was able to set a personal record in deadlifting – apparently he could lift as much as 420lbs (190kgs), which impressed everyone with whom he worked out. After realizing his prowess was nothing short of amazing, Maxx decided to create a YouTube channel.

‘In just a few months, I became addicted to breaking records’, he says. ‘They motivated me, so I wondered – could they motivate other people as well?’ With the help of a friend who studied Video Production, he started producing and uploading workout videos. He was so dedicated to maintaining a proper content posting routine, that he sometimes overworked himself. However, he started receiving a lot of support; people started calling him “Deadlift Brah” because of his love towards this difficult, back-building exercise. Since every video he posted had 10,000+ views in a matter of days, Maxx wanted to take his endeavors one step further. On a daily basis, he read about nutrition, anatomy and chemistry, all in order to create different types of videos and educate his audience like never before. After a short while, he “cashed in” his creativity, as well.

Ever Forward Apparel

In 2014, Matt Chewning founded Ever Forward Apparel. The brand’s name stems from the favorite saying of his late father, to whom he was close. “Ever Forward” means always marching onwards, especially in the face of adversity. With an inspirational story and innovative designs, EFA became one of the best-known independent gym wear brands, next to SeidWear and Do You Even. In addition to having reasonable prices and a wide array of clothing, Ever Forward Apparel actively supports the ALS Association, which is devoted to helping people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or motor neurone disease (MND), donating a big percentage of their revenue to the charity.

Training and Nutrition

In the last eight years, Maxx was able to pull-off some very impressive lifts. Even though he looks great, it’s not his main goal. ‘I mean, everyone loves looking ripped and all, but I was always more fascinated by exploring my own strength’, stated Maxx. ‘It was always ‘hmm, can I lift 350lbs this time?’ and I would only notice being bigger later.’ Even today, Chewning has a custom-made workout regime which is centered around three main exercises – deadlift, squat and bench press. Also known as “the big three”, these compound lifts engage a large number of muscles at the same time. Several reports say that squats, for instance, are useful in achieving a higher testosterone level, impacting strength, dexterity and even cognitive functions in a positive manner.

As for nutrition, Maxx doesn’t like to complicate things; he has a set calorie count each day and just eats anything he wants as long as it doesn’t compromise his macros for the day. ‘It’s okay to eat unhealthy when you’re in a hurry, there’s no point in wasting time. When that happens, just try not to continue the rest of the day eating junk. Adapt.’

Steroid Use?

On several sites, such as Bodybuilding.com and Reddit, fans began speculating that Maxx is using steroids. His almost inhuman strength gains brought widespread skepticism when it comes to his claims of being “natural”. Maxx denied any and all accusations relating to performance enhancement drugs (PEDs), and eventually stopped commenting on the matter. Some fitness experts have sided with him: ‘Look at his anterior deltoid muscles (shoulders). If someone is using PEDs, they are usually enlarged’, commented one trainer on Reddit. ‘Concerning his strength gains, his background in wrestling makes his improvements totally possible,’

Personal Life: Does Maxx Chewning Have a Girlfriend?

As for his romantic involvements prior to the current one. Up to this point, it has been Maxx’s choice to keep news about his partners almost completely private, and thus he hasn’t addressed most of these inquiries. At this time, it is known that his partner is Mona Rhazi, a fitness model and Instagram celebrity of Moroccan descent. The two are thought to be dating for over three years and often post pictures together. Maxx never hesitates to remind her how much he values her support. In one photo description, he said: ‘…it wouldn’t have been possible without @monabrownn! She put in so much work over the last few months setting up the event on top of dealing with my annoying self on a daily basis.

Thankful to have you!’ Mona is also an Ever Forward Apparel athlete and is instrumental in promoting the brand’s female-oriented clothing lines.
