Early Life and Martial Arts Beginnings

Shaianna grew up with a lot of support from her mother, who encouraged her to try her hand at various physical activities, so becoming interested in several sports and following the careers of high profile athletes. At three years old, she started frequenting a nearby dojo in Vacaville, and as she grew older she started to train in Judo.

The martial art originated in Japan, and later evolved into an Olympic and combat sport. It is a competitive martial art with the focus on takedowns or throws which is usually the objective of a competitive match. One can also subdue an opponent using a pin, choke, or a joint locks. Strikes and weapons can also be allowed in judo, but has to be pre-arranged and is not allowed in professional competitions. Judo is one of the martial arts from Japan that predates the Meiji Restoration which restored imperial rule in Japan in 1868.

Education and Transition to MMA

While continuing her training, Rincon matriculated from high school and enrolled at Sacramento’s California State University. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and afterwards started working as a security guard for Target. While doing so, she began training as a police cadet for the Vacaville Police Department, but discontinued pursuing a career in law enforcement to instead become a professional MMA fighter, realizing after a few jobs that she wanted to fight professionally, and have a career as an athlete. This also mixed well with her passion for martial arts and weightlifting.

However, it was difficult for her to try and start a career as a fighter, as she didn’t have enough income to support her as she was gaining recognition in the industry, needing facilities to train and a personal trainer. Gear also didn’t come cheap, so she created a Gofundme account to help her followers raise funds for her to achieve her dream. She mentions that the finances have not been a detriment for her to train well, and she eventually became a part of the MMA Gold Fight Team, a professional group based in El Dorado Hills, California which helps train MMA fighters as well as prospects.

MMA Fights

Yaya began to work with coach Jim West of the MMA Gold Fight Team, and started competing at 135 lbs. She made her debut against Michelle Gama at the Central Coast Throwdown: Superbrawl 2014 which she won via submission during the first round. Her next match would be in the flyweight division against Anntonette Bernal during the Hoplights Fights, and she won via unanimous decision, and the fight was considered the most notable of the event despite it being the first one.

Her next two fights would be against Brooke May which she won, and this led her to have an Invicta FC 23: Bantamweight fight against Brooksie Bayard which she won via unanimous decision. In 2017, she competed against Courtney King at Invicta FC 25 under the Featherweight division and she won via a Technical Knockout (TKO), and was set to have a match against Lisa Spangler, but it was cancelled for undisclosed reasons. She is ranked sixth overall among active California women in MMA pound for pound; she now competes at the 170 lbs range.

For her personal life, it is known that she is married to a man under the on-line moniker Yngstr Oreo, who owns the apparel store business Yngstr. She also has a Twitter account on which she posts some of her daily thoughts, including her life as a mom. She recently returned to training in the gym preparing for her next MMA match.
