Curtis was raised in Hayward alongside his older sister Wanda, by their father Rocky Johnson who was a Canadian professional wrestler, and their mother Una Sparks who was a housewife; their parents were married from 1966 to 1978.
While still married to Una, Rocky had an affair with Ata Fitisemanu Malvia, and she gave birth to their son Dwayne on 2 May 1972; Rocky married Ata in 1978, only a couple of months after having divorced Una.
Curtis grew up being interested in numerous activities, and enjoyed playing sports while attending a local high school; he was mostly into wrestling, looking up to his father, and was apparently the best wrestler at his school.

He has played and voiced characters in more than 100 movies and TV series, while he’s perhaps known best for his starring role in the 2017 action adventure comedy movie “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”.
