Who is Aaron Rodgers?

Aaron Charles Rodgers was born on the 2nd December 1983 in Chico, California, USA, of British and German descent, and is a professional American Football player, who is best recognized for playing in the position of quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Green Bay Packers. He is also known for being the Super Bowl MVP in 2010 and League MVP in 2011 and 2014.

Childhood and Early Life

Aaron spent part of his childhood in Chico, where he was raised with two brothers by his father, Edward Wesley Rodgers, who played American Football in the position of offensive lineman for the Chico State Wildcats between 1973 and 1976, and his mother, Darla Leigh Pittman Rodgers. He is the older brother of Jordan Rodgers, who is known as a sports commentator and former college and professional American Football player. When still a child, the family moved to Ukiah, California and there he attended Oak Manor Elementary School. Under the influence of his father, Aaron very early became interested in sports, so he appeared on the cover page of the Ukiah Daily Journal when he was only ten years old due to his excellent performance at a local basketball competition. When Aaron was still in elementary school, the family relocated again, to Beaverton, Oregon, where he was educated at Vose Elementary School and Whitford Middle School, meantime playing baseball in the Raleigh Hills Little League.

High School Career

In 1997, the family moved back to Chico where Aaron matriculated from Pleasant Valley High School, which was where he became interested in football, and played for the school team. Even at the beginning of his football career, he showed noticeable talent as he set single-game records of six touchdowns and 440 all-purpose yards, as well as single-season school record with 2,466 total yards in 2001.

College Career

Upon matriculation in 2002, he enrolled in Butte Community College, in Oroville, California, where he played American football for the college team. Having 26 touchdowns as a freshman, Aaron led the team to play at the NorCal Conference Championship, where they ended in the No. 2 national ranking. Subsequently, he was spotted by the California Golden Bears’s head coach Jeff Tedford, who offered Aaron an athletic scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley in order to play for his team, which he eventually accepted – due to his great accomplishments both in high school and college football, he got the chance to transfer after just one year at junior college, whereas others usually become eligible for transfer after two years.

Aaron began playing in the position of the starting quarterback after just five games with the team, and helped them to set a 7-3 record in the 2003 season. In the following year, his contribution to the team led them to 10-1 record, good enough for a top 5 position at the end of the season, an amazing performance considering that he was still a junior. With his 26 consecutive passes, he set the school record in that category, and yet another record with his 85.3% pass completion. Overall, he finished the 2004 season with 2,566 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions, after which he decided to enter the 2005 NFL Draft.

Professional Career Beginnings

Arron’s impressive overall college performance led him to be selected in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, as the 24th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers, subsequently signing a rookie contract worth $7.7 million, which marked the establishment of his net worth. The next three years, Rodgers didn’t see that much action at the field, as he was the backup quarterback who got on the field only when their starting quarterback was injured. However, during those years he improved his moves, body shape and form thanks to his head coach Mike McCarthy.

Rise to Fame

In 2008, Aaron eventually became the starting quarterback for the team, when Brett Favre announced his retirement. He immediately proved that he deserved the position by passing for 4,038 yards and 28 touchdowns in this first season. In the games that season, he threw 157 consecutive passes without interception which was the third-longest streak in the history of the franchise, which increased enormously his popularity. At the end of the season, the Packers extended his contract for six more years, which was worth over $65 million, adding a considerable amount to his net worth.

MVP Title

In the following years, Aaron managed to become one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league due to his commitment and persistence. The team finished the 2011 season with 15-1, which was one of the many records they set that year, with Aaron one of the most efficient players, setting the record pass rating of 100.0 in 12 consecutive games, and winning the MVP title in 2011. During the same year, he also won Associated Press Athlete of the Year Award, Bert Bell Award and that season was ranked as the third greatest passing season of all time by ESPN in 2013 and was regarded as the most efficient.

In addition, Aaron set an NFL record for most consecutive pass attempts without an interception. Moreover, this was the year when he received his second league MVP title, as well as the NFC Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Furthermore, he was also named to the Pro Bowl of the Year, and ended up as the second best player in the whole league. In the following years, Aaron continued to play for the Packers and remained one of the greatest players in the league, who has received numerous significant honors, interrupted only by a fractured collar bone in 2017 which kept him out for three months.
