Brock Ciarlelli Bio: Early Life and Family

Brock Ciarlelli grew up in the suburbs of Denver with his mother Priscilla, his father and his older brother. Speaking about his childhood, Brock said that he figured out quite early on that acting was his biggest passion. As soon as first grade, he joined the community theatre and got involved in plays, musicals and show choir; he also took tap dancing lessons. Moreover, he said he realized during the production of “Charlotte’s Web” in third grade, that he enjoyed comedy more than anything else.

Even though he would spend most of his free time with his friends, he would without exception come to every rehearsal, even if it meant sacrificing his free playtime.  On that he said: ‘Looking back, I don’t think any ten-year-old boy would choose rehearsal over his friends unless performing was in his blood’. Luckily for Brock, his first audition for a serious role proved to be a successful one; namely, he was still in high school when he was cast as Brad Bottig in “The Middle”, a role that would see him not just  launch his acting career, but rise to prominence.

Education

Despite being cast in a television show, Brock did not want to neglect his education – instead, he split his time between filming and college lectures, studying mathematics at Chapman University in Orange, California. Despite having a busy schedule, Brock made sure that he dedicated enough time to college in order to get the full college experience, including working as a tour guide for the university. He was also an orientation leader and a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Beside this, he was also able to do several internships, before graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics after four years of study.

“The Middle”

In 2009 Brock was cast as a major recurring character in “The Middle”, a sitcom about the daily struggles of a lower middle-class family from Indiana trying to juggle home life, work and raising children, having the opportunity to act alongside some of his childhood idols, such as Neil Flynn from “Scrubs” and Patricia Heaton, the star of “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Created by former “Murphy Brown” and “Roseanne” writers, the series went for nine seasons from 2009 until 2018, and not only did it become a commercial success, but it was also highly praised by critics, earning a number of nominations and awards throughout its run. Brock himself was nominated two times and won four awards – in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 he was given the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series – Recurring Young Actor.

In the final season of the show, Brock’s status was upgraded to series regular. Over the course of 215 episodes Brock’s character had several important storylines, but the most important was his coming out as gay to his friend and former girlfriend Sue Heck, played by Eden Sher. Regarding his time in the show, Ciarlelli said that it was ‘equal parts fun, fulfilling, and educational’.

Other Roles

Brock landed his next role in 2010, in the indie thriller entitled “2.0”. After that he starred in the television movie “Beth and Ali” in 2013 and made a guest appearance in an episode of television series “Noches con Platanito” in 2016. In 2016 he acted in the first season of the comedy show “Valet”, which follows the lives of employees at the Royal Lion Valet. In 2018 he appeared in the short movie “Home Entertainment”, then in October 2018 it was announced that Ciarlelli will join the planned “The Middle” spin-off entitled “Sue Sue in the City” as a series regular. Although ABC passed on the show, it is expected to be picked up by another network and start production.

However, there is no information on whether or not the actor is currently dating anyone. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
