Who is Rena Sofer?

Rena Sherel Sofer was born on the 2nd December 1968, in Arcadia, California USA, and is a film and television actress, probably best known to the world from playing Lois Cerullo in the soap opera “General Hospital” (1993-1997), and as Quinn Fuller in another soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2013-2017), among other differing roles. She was also Margaret Allison Hart for six episodes in the crime drama series “NCIS” in 2010.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Rena is the daughter of Conservative Jewish rabbi Martin Sofer, and his wife Susan, who worked as a psychology professor. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she lived until her parents divorced, and then moved with her father to New Jersey, and went the Frisch School, and later North Bergen High School, from which she matriculated. She subsequently enrolled at Montclair State College.

Career Beginnings

Rena got her start as an actress with the role of Joyce Abernathy in the soap opera “Another World” in 1987, and the following year began portraying Amelia ‘Rocky’ McKenzie Domecq in the soap opera “Loving” (1988-1991), while in 1992 she made her first film appearance in the romantic drama “A Stranger Among Us”, starring Melanie Griffith and Eric Thal. Gradually Rena’s skills improved, and she became more confident and ready for bigger roles.

Rise to Prominence

It was in 1993 that Rena sensed her first touch of glory when she was chosen for the part of the outrageous Lois Cerullo in the daytime soap opera “General Hospital”, portraying the role for the next three seasons, then appearing on several occasions as a guest star in 1997. The role celebrated her as an actress, and won her a number of prestigious awards, including the Daytime Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Soap Opera Digest Award in the category Outstanding Younger Lead Actress. Rena’s popularity soared through the roof, which enabled her to secure new roles in popular productions. In 1998 she was selected for the role of Eve Cleary in the TV romantic drama series “Melrose Place”, starring Heather Locklear, Andrew Shue and Courtney Thorne-Smith, and then in 2000 broke out from television roles to play Rachel Rose in the romantic comedy “Keeping the Faith” (2000), with Ben Stiller, Edward Norton and Jenna Elfman. She returned to television roles during the early 2000s, featuring in such series as “The Chronicle” (2001-2002), “Coupling” (2003), and “Just Shoot Me!” (2002-2003).

Career Decline

Unfortunately, her next role as Marilyn Bauer in the cult TV action drama series “24”, was the last one in the 2000s that became a success. Though she featured in several films such as “Rocky Slide” in 2009, and “Always and Forever”, the projects failed to strike a chord with the public. She tried to return to TV with the role of Margaret Allison Hart, but featured in only six episodes of the highly-acclaimed TV series.

Career Resurgence

Proving that hard work pays off, Rena never quit pursuing another big deal, and in 2013 her pursuit was over, when she was chosen for the part of Quinn Fuller in the soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful”, and since then has appeared in 610 episodes, which brought her career back on the truck, and her name was again recognized all over the world.
