Of German, Irish, English and Scottish ancestry, Ryan is the second child and only son born to Earl and Nonalyn Merriman. He entered show business at the age of eight, when he started appearing in commercials and local theater, so it didn’t take too much for Ryan to become a professional actor.
Career Beginnings
Rise to Prominence
Ryan used the momentum from the 2000s and several successful horror film appearances to land the part of Ian Thomas in the TV series “Pretty Little Liars” (2010-2014), which became one of his most prominent roles. Concurrently, Ryan was active in search of other projects, and in 2011 starred in the comedy-drama film “Tomorrow’s End”, then the comedy film “Cheesecake Casserole” (2012), and had a supporting role in the biopic about Jackie Robinson, entitled “42” and starring Chadwick Boseman, T.R. King and Harrison Ford, which was a complete success, launching Ryan to stardom. Since then, he has featured in a number of films, though only a few made an impact on his career. He starred in the sci-fi drama film “Domain” in 2017, and in the comedy series “In the Rough”. He is currently working on several projects, including the horror film “Portal” and the western film “Palominas”, both scheduled for release late in 2018.
